That’s what my colleague and Simply Recipes’ Senior Editor Summer Miller wrote in an Instagram post a few weeks ago. “Is there a better all purpose kitchen towel? I think not,” she said. I couldn’t agree more! And Summer’s very favorite towels? The flour sack towels from Kei & Molly Textiles. I’ll let her tell you about them today: When I stumbled upon Kei and Molly flour sack towels at a farmers market in Santa Fe, New Mexico I was instantly drawn to the fun, artful prints and vibrant colors. When it comes to function flour sack towels are the best, but Kei and Molly take the functional and make it beautiful. The towels are large and absorbent and I’ve used them for everything from drying dishes to wringing out freshly shredded potatoes and covering a bowl of rising dough. Kei & Molly Textiles was founded by two entrepreneurs, Kei Tsuzuki and Molly Luethi, who wanted to open a business to help refugees and immigrants in the International District of Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Our neighborhood is one of the city’s most culturally vibrant and diverse, though still steeped in poverty,” they write in their mission. “We aim to serve as an economic engine for this area, providing work, skills, and support for those looking to build a better life for themselves and their families.” Every textile – and they sell more than just tea towels! – is screen-printed by hand. And the designs are so lovely! Cheers to good tools, and a company worth supporting.
